On
the boundary between the states of Mérida, Táchira and
Barinas.

How to get there
By
land, following the road from Barinas to San Cristóbal.
After Santa Bárbara, 46 km. ahead, take a right towards
Santa María de Caparo.

Characteristics
This
is the most recently created park, occupying number 43
in the list of national parks. Its main objective is to
protect the areas that surround the installations of the
Uribante-Caparo hydroelectric complex. Two dams are
being built at this moment, Vueltosa and Borde Seco. The
enormous potential of the region is essentially hydric
and it has to be preserved. Many rivers and creeks cross
the park. The two most important ones are the Uribante
and the Caparo.

Vegetation
It
has not been inventoried, but it corresponds to tropical
montane and submontane forest.

Fauna
An
inventory does not exist, but due to the characteristics
of the park certain species could be found here, like
the spectacled bear, the margay, the paca, etc. It is a
migratory bird route, for those which fly from the
mountain to the Llano.

The
same as for any national park.

Facilities
None,
except for those found in the neighboring villages.
There are certain facilities for picnics and walks at
the Uribante river dam.
