Location
In
the southwestern extreme of the country, south of San
Cristóbal, at the beginning of the Andes.

How to get there
y
air or land to San Cristóbal. Then by road via
Rubio-Santa Ana or Chururú.

Characteristics
The
park, located on the border with Colombia, is a portion
of the Venezuelan Andes formed by mountain chains, among
which the most important are the páramo de Tamá, the
sierra of Santa Bárbara, The Judío páramo, and the Páramo
of El Cobre. It serves as protection to the high basins
of the Cutufí, Sarere, Negro, Frío, Chiquito and
Quinimaní rivers, and it has a rugged topography.

Vegetation
Its
different altitudinal levels define four vegetation
formations: premontane forest, humid forest, cloud
forest and sub-Alpine paramo. The endemic species found
there are those common to the Venezuelan Andes.

Fauna
A
precise inventory does not exist, but it is estimated to
be varied. The mammals which can be found there are the
spectacled bear, the paca, the tapir, the giant
anteater, the margay. Among birds, there is the Collared
Inca, the Venezuelan Wood-quail, the Rufous Wren, the
Sunangel, etc.

Facilities
Very
scarce. There are lodging facilities and food in the
villages that surround the park. As a tourist
attraction, the páramos of Tamá, El Cobre and El Judío,
can be traveled, with the necessary precautions of
ap-propriate clothing, good walking shoes, etc.

2,000 mm. and 4,000 mm.
