                      How to get there 
                      
                        By
                        land from Maracaibo to Machiques, and then to the
                        vicinity of the park, following the roads that lead to
                        the villages of La Sierra and Ariguaisa.

                      Characteristics 
                      
                        The
                        park occupies a good portion of the Perijá Sierra,
                        along the border, in what is also known as the Sierra de
                        los Motilones, the aboriginal inhabitants of the region.
                        It has a rugged relief and is covered by an almost
                        impenetrable dense vegetation. The mountains rise like a
                        vertical wall from the plains of the Maracaibo Lake. It
                        is an important hydrological reserve.

                      Vegetation 
                      
                        The
                        main vegetation formations are cloud forest and paramo
                        vegetation. Many species are represented, like the
                        cedar, trumpetwood, "The Children", yellow
                        poui, several species of palms, ferntrees, Spanish moss,
                        orchids and bromeliads.

                      Fauna 
                      
                        There
                        is a rich and abundant wildlife. Among mammals there are
                        capuchin monkeys and red howler monkeys, the spectacled
                        bear, the paca, the giant anteater, the margay and the
                        porcupine. The most important birds are the Wood Stork,
                        the King Vulture, Plumbeous Kite, the Black-and-chestnut
                        Eagle, the Fork-tailed Woodnymph, the Helmeted Curassow,
                        the Southern Lapwing, etc.

                      Recomendations 
                      
                        Due
                        to the characteristics of the park and its location, it
                        is not advisable to go at night or alone.

                      Facilities 
                      
                        None.
                        Wild and inaccessible, a place of interest is the
                        Indigenous Mission of Tukuko, run by the Capuchin
                        fathers. This is Yucpa territory.

                      Climate 
                      
                        Temperatures
                        range between 6° C. and 28° C. Hot and humid, with an
                        annual precipitation of over 2,000 mm.
